Short newsletter today…I wanted to invite you all to an interview I am doing today with Nathan Salsburg at 2pm PST (5pm EST). I have known Nathan since around 2003? 5? when I began work with Anna Lomax and Jeff Greenberg on what would become the massive boxset Alan Lomax In Haiti. Nathan was in his early 20s at the time and worked with Anna at The Association for Cultural Equity, an organization “founded by Alan Lomax to explore and sustain the world's expressive traditions with humanistic commitment and scientific engagement.” Nathan was working on a project around Alan’s recordings in Kentucky; we became friends and have remained so over the years.
Nathan has done a heroes job at helping get the Alan Lomax archives out to the world, and is now working towards that with John Lomax’s recordings (John was Alan’s father). All the while, Nathan has been releasing records of his solo guitar beauty and has toured the world. He has many stories to tell…both his own and those from history that he has uncovered in his work.
This year, Nathan released a record of ancient Jewish psalms, enlisting friends to help littered around the Americana scene including Will Oldham of Bonnie Prince Billie. His journey in making the record…his work in the world of music history preservation…his life as a new Dad…we will be covering today when I get the opportunity to talk to him from his home in Kentucky.
If you would like to join today, RSVP here. If so, “see” you soon….
