THE SIGNAL from David Katznelson
“By not dealing with past human rights violations, we are not simply protecting the perpetrators' trivial old age...ripping the foundations of justice from beneath new generations.”-Antjie Krog
I am coming to a close of the first week of my new newsletter format and I wanted to thank many of you for reaching out with the positive feedback. I am loving the tools Substack is offering to take what I am doing to a new level.
I wanted to acknowledge the person who set me on this path in the first place. Jonathan Abrams is a dear old friend (who I definitely owe a call)—a person whom my Dad loved— who created an amazing technology called nuzzel that offered a newsletter opportunity. In the spirit of supporting my friends and their start-ups, I jumped in and started my own. As Jonathan stepped away from the business, I kept the newsletter going and have now made the next step to developing it. Jonathan is a visionary who has inspired and changed many peoples’ lives with his work (and continues to do so) and I will be forever thankful for both his friendship and the gift he gave to me—a platform to express myself and my interests.
GWENIFER RAYMOND – HELL FOR CERTAIN
Josh Rosenthal is one of the great A&R people of our age, and one of his most recent discoveries is truly breathtaking. Gwenifer Raymond is a sensational guitar player who brings a darkness and depth to her genre…and at such a young age. I am pretty sure she did this video on her own and it is so worth a watch as her new record is worth a listen.
AS usual, The Sun delivers an incredible interview about a big issue of our age told by a true thoughtleader. A great weekend read and companion to the fabulous documentary The Social Dilemma.
The Damned Announce Reunion Tour With Original Lineup
The Damned were my favorite band throughout my high school and college years (yeah, the Flaming Lips, The Who and others were in there too). I still love them and live they are still unbeatable. Rat Scabies and Brian James, who were in the first incarnation of the band, the era of the band that released the very first punk rock single. Rat stayed through their questionable goth-pop era, but both have been deeply estranged from David Vanian and Captain Sensible for years and it is just really exciting to see them back together (even if it came about because of financial opportunities). Will they really be able to play a club gig in July? Can I be there? Time will tell…but oh yeah….the Damned are back.

The Pasture
By ROBERT FROST
I'm going out to clean the pasture spring;
I'll only stop to rake the leaves away
(And wait to watch the water clear, I may):
I sha'n't be gone long.—You come too.
I'm going out to fetch the little calf
That's standing by the mother. It's so young,
It totters when she licks it with her tongue.
I sha'n't be gone long.—You come too.
