THE SIGNAL from David Katznelson
“Suddenly I realize That if I stepped out of my body I would break Into blossom. ” ― James Wright
The house smells like spent oil. And it is only the morning after the first night of Hanukkah….and the kids want latkes….again….tonight.
I got a Blue Cheer record for Hanukkah, first night—New! Improved: the one with Randy Holden hitting rock god status on side 2. What did you get?
This weekend (Sunday) is the birthday of Jack Hirschman, former poet laureate of San Francisco, a remarkable human being whose poetry, support of other poets, and translations have left quite a legacy. He is and has been a voice for the people throughout his career and I look forward to the world opening up so I can go get charged at one of his readings again. Happy 86th birthday Jack.

Francis Ford Coppola discusses the potential of future ‘The Godfather’ films
I must be living under a rock, not knowing of the release of the new, supposedly better, Godfather III edit (subtitled The Death of Michael Corleone). I HATED the film when it originally came out. How does one polish a turd? I guess if one is Francis Ford Coppola, anything is possible.
The New Vocabulary of Funkadelic by Nick Mitchell Maiato
One Eleven Heavy member (and all around good guy) Nick Maiato pays tribute to one of the most grooviest (sticking with my syntax) records of all time, 50 years old this year. When I first heard this record I was completely taken aback at what I was expecting and what I got…I was expecting a funk record, but instead got a piece of art that flowed through genres, always with a groove and a heaviness of the time (and yes, the beginnings of what would eventually be known as modern funk). This was the first record of a legacy that changed the face of music forever. Pre-Sir Nose, but just by an eye-hair.
